Heartland Fire & Rescue Awarded Critical Lifesaving Upgrade From Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation®

La Mesa, Calif. – Heartland Fire & Rescue has been named a 2021 grant recipient by Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation®. The City of La Mesa accepted the award as a member agency of Heartland Fire & Rescue, which was created as a joint exercise of powers agreement providing shared fire resources to El Cajon, La Mesa and Lemon Grove. These cities are safer than ever thanks to the Foundation providing important funding in the amount of $11,314. The grant will be used to purchase swift water rescue equipment for each of the three cities and will ensure our communities are safer and better prepared for emergencies.

“We’re so thankful for the support from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs restaurant, in San Diego,” said Steve Swaney, fire chief, Heartland Fire & Rescue. “The swift water rescue gear will help us gain access to swift water rescue victims and provide enhanced rescue capabilities for the community.”

During the most recent grant cycle, the Foundation awarded 118 grants to public safety organizations across the country. The 118 grants total more than $2.5 million toward critical lifesaving equipment, a new record for the most money ever awarded in a single quarter.
