Lemon Grove……At 12:00 a.m. Friday morning, Heartland Fire & Rescue units from Lemon Grove, with assistance from San Diego Fire and Cal Fire, were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 1800 block of Costada Court. Initial reports were of a house with flames coming out of a window. Fire crews arrived within 5 minutes to report a single story, single family dwelling with heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the house.
A 90 year old female occupant was able to escape the residence on her own before firefighters arrived. Her 63 year old son was not able to escape the house, and was found by firefighters. He was pronounced deceased on scene. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire and were able to contain the fire within 10 minutes with no damage to any of the surrounding structures. There were no firefighter injuries reported.
San Diego Sheriff Bomb & Arson Task Force is currently investigating the fire. Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $300,000.
